ISABELLA SCHARF
F A R B E B E K E N N E N is a German idiom. It means “to show one’s true colors”. As a painter, I take it literally. Art serves as a symbolic realization of life and color is my language of individuation.
In artistic response to a body-related momentum, a language emerges beyond rationalization. It opens a gate into our imagination, which expresses itself individually in dreams and collectively in form of great myths and spiritual narratives. It’s a world of the unpredictable and undefinable, containing heavenly ladders, underworlds, powerful creatures and steep ridges. Were people fall into depths only to learn to fly. This inner space helps us understand ourselves, our connections, and the essence of life, reflecting the ever-changing nature of existence. Art plays a role in expressing this transformation. Some see this realm as connected to the woman, the feminine, or the matriarchal (The Nine Muses). Others, like C.G. Jung called the journey through Individuation “The Hero’s Journey”. For each person brings their own unique experiences and Individual Mythologies to this space. The meaning of this is up for discussion on this page.
