The collage series CUTTING THE EDGE marks the end of the painterly trilogy A NEW NOW. The trilogy began in 2017 during an extended stay in the USA.

I understand CUTTING THE EDGE quite literally. Paintings and sketches that lack inner balance and dynamic are cut apart. They are then reassembled into collages on multicolored or monochrome backgrounds. The process involves the destruction of the old in order to make a new beginning possible. …to be continued…

On the one hand, the collage technique allows me to explore colour, texture, and spatiality from a new perspective. On the other hand, CUTTING THE EDGE becomes synonymous with the transformative forces within the cycle of becoming, existing, and passing away.

The collages are dialogues with magical, dreamlike landscapes. They refer to particular places in the Sierra Nevada, the Mojave Desert, and the Austrian Alps—places that have deeply moved me. The compositions and motifs of the collages play with balance and dynamics. They form a future inner landscape, opening up new possibilities for experience and new territory.
